Linux: Renoise in Full Screen Won't Allow Dual Monitor Usage

OS: Linux - Ubuntu Studio 24.04

Issue: When Renoise is set to full screen with a dual monitor setup, Renoise will not allow a detached Mixer/Instrument editor to be dragged over to another monitor.

Recreating Issue:

  • Open Renoise on monitor one
  • Select “View” on top menu
  • Click “Full Screen” option
  • Renoise goes full screen
  • Select “View” menu again
  • Click “Detach Mixer and or Instrument Editor”
  • “Mixer” and or “Instrument editor” window opens
  • Drag window to monitor two, window stops at border of monitor one.

Not sure if it’s a Renoise issue or a Linux issue. Any info would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

This is likely a window manager/desktop environment issue.
I’m guessing your environment is probably GNOME, but isn’t it the case that full-screen windows can’t be dragged at all?
At least that was the case with labwc (one of the Wayland stacking window managers).

EDIT:
No, in labwc I can drag maximized GTK or QT windows, but it seems that in Renoise, once a window is maximized, can’t drag it.
It also appears that Renoise could be the cause.

I’m using KDE Plasma as it comes with Ubuntu Studio. If I have the mixer in one monitor and the main pattern editor on the other monitor and I tell renoise to enter full screen it closes the mixer window.

This might also be related.

Interesting I never had that issue

Yeah I just did that now by setting it to have windows be able to go over the task bar. It’s crude but it seems to work as it auto hides when a window is maximized.
