I have been having a very frustrating problem for some time. Every time i start renoise on my machine it completely freezes the system, and I cannot find any information in the logs about what is going wrong.
I assume it is a kernel crash since the button used to turn on and off bluetooth does not make the led turn on and off when switched. The system is completely unresponsive and I have to reset the machine to get back.
I have looked at ~/.renoise/V2.0.0/Log.txt but it does not contain any information relating to the moments up to the crash. I also Looked at the logs under /var/log/, but was unable to find anything I could link with the freeze.
So I would like to ask if someone can help me. My system is as follows:
Debian Etch
Kernel: 2.6.25.8-rt7, The same ehappens with 2.6.26.6-rt11
If I should post more info I would gladly do so. Any pointers are appreciated!
Could you please also show us the log after such a crash? This way we see what Renoise does right before your system crashes.
I would guess that this is a problem with either your ALSA audio or MIDI drivers. Its quite unlikely that programs cause a system freeze, its more likely that this is a driver problem.
It is a system wide install and I think there were no strange messages during the install.
The Log.txt file does not show much. It ends with:
Application: Init OK
Application: Enter MainLoop...
I think that might be right regarding this being a problem with alsa or midi. Yesterday my system hung without me having touched the computer at all. I beleive the krenel simply crashed. It could be I should suspect the “Miditech Control-25” that I had plugged in at the time.
This evening i booted the computer having the Miditech controller plugged in and my system has been working fine for a couple of hours, so I now I am happy
