Live Coding Music

Hi!

I found this interesting video from YT where Switch Angel is live coding trance with Strudel.

Coded music on the video develops into a really good track and, at least for me, opens up a lot of possibilities and things that can be achieved by coding music.

Tidal cycles is Strudel’s mother language and same kind of functionality is also found now inside of Renoise via 3.5 version’s phrase scripting tool.

At this point phrase scripting is much more limited than functionalities found on Strudel but the video gives a good idea of what could be possible and achievable via coding music.

I’m on her Discord. I mentioned this and someone pointed me to

where someone is working on a lua port of tidal cycles

This is interesting, thank you for the link!

Do you have experience or do you happen to know: since this is Lua code, is it possible to run it in Renoise somehow?

I have no idea, it was just something someone brought up. it’d probably take work, and that lua port is incomplete from my understanding

thanks for pointing this repo out. got some typo fixes etc in right now.

Renoise’s tidal Cycle implementation is pretty complete and built into Renoise: GitHub - renoise/pattrns: Experimental imperative-style music sequence generator engine
