This will probably work allright, but i would most definately use a preamp before plugging it into the amp because the piezo has a weaker signal output than a guitar pickup.
The tutorial seems like very much text for quite simple stuff (didn’t read it all), i personally think this tutorial, where he also makes a simple preamp for it, is more useful:
