"Make Unique" Vs. "Make Block Unique"

I understand what “Make Unique” does but could someone please explain “Make Block Unique”. Sorry for asking so many dumb questions.

Start a new song
Make a sequence range with 10 pattern 0 sequences or so. (Simply copy the existing pattern 0 sequence ten times)
Select four sequence positions by clicking and dragging downwards.
Select make block unique (complete block should change into 1)
Now select the lowest two pattern-cells of that block and also add two pattern 0 cells in that same block. You have now two sequences of pattern 1 and two sequences of pattern 0 selected.
Execute make block unique again.
Now this range is changing into pattern figures that aren’t used anywhere yet.
That’s what Make Block Unique does.
