Midi channel selection per note column of track

Hi all, I am writing metal in renoise and one of the things I would like to see:

As you can see, I have 8 note columns for the guitar, keyswitch, string and then the 6 individual strings.

The VST I use (The Odin III) has a feature where a string can be selected by outputting notes on a certain channel:

It would be a very nice to have to be able to set the midi channel for a certain column inside a track.
(And yes, I realize I am likely the only person on the planet that needs it, so unlikely to happen, but I did want to at least put the idea out  )

I’m pretty sure what you’re describing is already possible. (If I understand your suggestion)

You can set a plugin alias on a new instrument and make it use different midi channel.

A more detailed explanation is on the wiki:

This sort of sounds like what I need indeed.
So just for my understanding:

I will make 00 Odin 3, have it route to midi channel 1 for keyswitches, then use 00 on the E string, create 5 aliases, and use 01 in the A string column, 02 D, 03 G, 04 B and 05 e, then all the midi data ends up in the same instance of Odin?

If so, not ideal to work with (easy to make mistakes with the instrument number) but it saves a shitload of work with the string select keyswitches

Yes.

That’s unfortunately a thing you’re going to deal with. I’d recommend putting a guitar plugin on every 16th instrument (example 00, 10, 20, …), so it’s easier to understand what midi channel it is by looking at the instrument number.

Awesome, thanks for the response! I should really use the manual  When I got renoise in december, I just started pushing buttons and messing around to see what it can do. Really happy it revived our death metal band after two decades <3

If you need to see it in action then check out the Effect Aliasing chapter of this video (it should auto-play there).

Tried it today, it sort of works, but the problem of the strings not responding to channel looks like a problem with Odin III, at least it works  thanks for the help <3

And now I’m using it for EZ Drummer 3. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much <3
