Midi devices locking up renoise new windows 11 midi

Ever since microsoft released it’s new midi 2.0 stuff in October 2025 I’ll get half way through a song, save it, then eventually the whole program freezes and is unresponsive. If i reopen renoise and then try to select any of the midi devices it instantly freezes again. I can restart the computer and select those midi devices and they work, but if I try to load any saved songs with those devices it instantly freezes up again and needs to reboot. so I have a bunch of half sequenced songs I cannot edit or pull note data from. I’m blaming microsoft, reason has the same results. damned OS making the whole computer useless again.

Oh and then anytime I close renoise it locks up and crashes too. awesome.

Have you already tried to deinstall and reinstall or update your MIDI drivers?

For me it sounds more like a problem with drivers. Not with Windows. If you just updated/upgraded to W11 from an older Windows (Win7/8) you probably need to update some drivers to make them W11 compatible.

No problems here with latest Windows 11. I can use all my MIDI devices without any issue.

Yea it’s still locking up rescanning midi devices or closing midi subsystems

reinstalled drivers a few times

tried different midi cables.

baffled

This is a win 11 native machine. it was great for a year, but something in the win updates has made things difficult.

There is a confusing but helpful discord where someone from microsoft is helping people with this - Windows MIDI / Audio
