There’s been some news on KVR lately about the VST standard being extended with MIDI plugins:

Will they be supported in Renoise? (as soon as all those freeware groove quantizers, MIDI delays etc. appear?)
First they need to make this API public for other Hosts. Currently its only available for Nuendo and the newest Cubase versions for testing …
An SDK is already available here. Or is it useful just for plugins development? (Sorry if this is a stupid question 
)
Could be interesting. But Renoise needs some (considerable) changes in event routings ++ before we can implement this (in a nice way at least).
