Could we maybe refactor the midi recording in Renoise? Even after you added latency compensation and jitter correction, it still clearly is not recording what you are playing, timing is different, quite audible with 30ms+ of latency, this on macOS at least.
At least for me, not being able to record midi with detail holds me back to use Renoise these days… Would be neat if it really was what-you-hear-is-what-you-get, as in the other DAWs. Note placement etc. could be improved, too…
Any way to get this resolved? Thanks.
Maybe we need a proper technical concept here first, before coding something.
Keep in mind that this is a tracker, thus by default your notes are automatically “snapped” to the grid of the pattern. Perhaps try with a greater “resolution” ie. double BPM in a twice as long pattern length?
Ah yeah, maybe I am still doing it the wrong way If you disable live quant and also set latency to like 30ms (e.g. using a PDC introducing plugin), setting it to LPB 8, will you get accurate midi recording?
I don’t have any problems as far as timing goes. You could even set your LPB to 96 with your pattern length to 384. Then set your quantize to 1. That would be like recording on an old 96 ppq MPC without quantization. Unfortunately Renoise does not allow you to quantize beyond 32 steps so you would be limited to quantizing at 16th notes @ 24 or faster which is fine imo.
The only problem I really have with Renoise’s quantization is that there is no option to turn off quantizing just note-offs. That really messes up a lot of recordings so I just use my outboard sequencer for that tbh. Would be a nice change to be able to turn off quantizing just note-offs so that note lengths would be a lot more accurate. My typical pattern length is 96 with the LBP set to 24 basically like an old Linn Drumm or any real old 24ppq midi sequencer. Note offs being quantized to that can be a real problem.
