Midi/track Routing Cleared On Loading Instruments

Got back from a party on Sunday afternoon, fair few people back to mine and decided to have a little jam along mess about with some Renoise instruments alongside somebody DJing on the decks.

Now this is the first time I’ve connected up any MIDI bits for a long time and my first go at setting up the new MIDI and Instrument Track routing options of Renoise. On the whole all fairly obvious and we quickly had my keyboard (M-Audio Ozonic) connected and playing some kind of bass or keys sound. Next we connected the MPC to the MIDI input of the Ozonic and managed to get this on a different Instrument, each tied to a channel with its own effects (little reverb on drum kit, sometimes we might add some distortion from Cab Simulator.)

Anyway the problems seemed to come when loading a new instrument into one of these slots. I would expect the MIDI Input settings to remain, so if I change a Instrument from being Casio Keys to Grand Piano (for random example) the keyboard can carry on playing on the same channel and still trigger the new instrument through the same track and effects.

This appeared not to be the case. Whenever a new instrument was loaded the MIDI Input settings were forgotten. Even more annoyingly the MIDI Input setting appeared to be cleared for every instrument they had been set up for, not only the one that has been newly loaded.

Admittedly I had been out all the previous night and wasn’t quite in the state for vigorous testing, the drop-down menus definitely cleared to default on both Instruments we were using every time, no matter which instrument we reloaded over. Although I have a feeling sometimes it might of still triggered the correct instrument, although it showed it as no longer being assigned to it, but I will have to do more testing when I can to fully confirm the details of in what way it appears to work non-as-expected.
