MIDI VST Focus

When routing a midi gen to another midi plugin to another midi plugin then to a plugin synth, it can be annoying navigating between instruments while playing live(non-recorded notes). For example if the first midi gen is an arp triggered by c-3 that ultimately drives a separate synth, when going between the 2 guis to edit, the arp loses selection focus and a simple c-3 comes out when editing synth parameters. Is there a way to avoid this? A gui always on top option? I know a doofer with mapped controls to the final destination synth on the arp track works, but that is limited. I’m gussing I missed a gui option or trick somewhere. It is really annoying the longer the chain of midi plugs becomes.

I was thinking about this too, it’s definitely a work-flow kink. I wonder if a tool could be rigged that could catch and list active instrument VSTi’s so you could call any of the interfaces from a single little window or menu?

Or if a MIDI notes were always routed to the beginning of the chain, regardless of the point selected instrument within that chain

I actually think this may be a midi vst bug. I was driving oxevst with bluearp and it worked how it should. I was running synth 1 from a host of piz plugs and it kept coming offline while switching between the two. I’m not sure if it is because synth1 has some weird gui issues going on, or maybe because the piz plugs rely on a “host” gui. Will investigate.

I can’t find any constant behavior when switching between MIDI generator and the receiving vsti. Sometimes switching to the generator closes the receiver gui, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes clicking on the receiver gui closes the generator gui, sometimes it doesn’t. I have observed that Renoise is more likely to allow both to be open simultaneously when it has first started. As Renoise remains open/running longer, the behavior gets worse(guis close more frequently). I’m using Bluearp, piz plugins(midiDelay and midiChords) as senders, Synth1 and Oxe FM as receivers.

Can be disbabled/controlled via the pin option in:http://tutorials.renoise.com/wiki/Plugin (Enable to pin the plugin’s external editor to the Renoise window.)

Also if you open up a VST GUI by double clicking an instrument in the instrument list while the pattern editor is open, it never will be “auto-closed”.

Thanks the unpinning solved it!
