Mixing Songs Questions...

Some questions about mixing songs…

  1. Is it legal to take many songs from many DJ’s , singers other artist’s e.t.c and create a cool CD and distribute this CD for FREE or for Profit???

  2. If it NOT legal what licenses do you need ??

  3. If you create a large song… a large MP3 File how do you split it in tracks ???

You create a CUE file like this so as to burn it in nero ???

First things first:

  • I’m not a lawyer :)
  • Depends on the laws in your country :rolleyes:

But normally I would say:

  1. No. Free doesn’t help anything. This is rather obvious, I think, imagine how much money they would make if this was legal. (In Norway this would be legal if you gave it to “close friends and family”, but that law is actually very liberal compared to other western coutries).

  2. Contact the recording company. They usually have the distribution rights. Actually, I believe few artists can even do this themselves without concent from the company, once the record is released or the contract is signed.

  3. Don’t know. But use the original PCM .WAV (or other uncompressed format) instead of the mp3 if you can, to avoid the quality loss.
