More subtle delay time stepping for delay DSP

Hey guys,

for using a haas panning (haas effect), you need to be able to setup the delays for left and right channel between 0.0 ms and 0.75 ms.

The delay effect’s delay sliders only allow integer values and are too unsubtle for these minor changes. Is it possible that A.) these sliders will become some pixels of an fine-tuning area from 0ms to 40ms in very fine steps, let’s say in the first quarter of the slider length?

Or B.) adding some two more delay value boxes (automatable) ranging from from 0ms to 40ms that will be added to the normal sliders?

I built some doofer “haas panner”, but using an external vst. Would be much more nice to build this only using internal fx.

Thanks for considering and thinking about it!

EDIT:

Since I now built a doofer for haas panning (see below), I now changed this request into the following:

Please allow more subtile delay value stepping in the delay device, just as in the multitap delay device! Thanks!

I really can’t see what makes it nicer to have it natively, plenty of free plugins that delay in samples, however simply use the multitap delay

Hey gova, thanks for that idea! Didn’t know that multitap can do more fine adjustments! Cool stuff, the 1ms delay will betolerable!

Made this “Haas Panner” Doofer:
http://forum.renoise.com/index.php/files/file/279-ju-haas-panner-doofer/

You can achieve this effect using the track delays which offer fine ms adjustments.

You cannot automate those delay times, and it does require doubling up the track to handle both left and right channels, but you can still get some pretty interesting results.

(The Doofer you made is also a very neat trick, too  )

This is a cool trick but not very mono compatible. I find that larger delay times (25 ms-ish) works nicely for reverby ambient kinda sounds though.

That’s true. I now added “phase” and “side” to the doofer above. You can try to use it to compensate the volume/frequency loss while mixing to mono (using the mono check knob).

I suppose if you had to have a fine delay of less than 1 mil in the effects chain you could turn the flanger modulation down to 0 and use the delay in there. Of course, dooferizng allows finer control by setting smaller max values so that’s not a problem, but still not stereo in the most convenient way for what you may be wanting to do.

(erh, or maybe the chorus or whichever let’s you have only wet signal out)

if you don’t need automation, you can simply use the convolver, will give you a native sample based delay, ah wait nvm, you’d still need to chains then, might as well use the plugin delay device…

just use a plugin :c
