MTS-ESP on Linux

Hi! The new Renoise release is great and I’ve been exploring its features on my Linux machine. The only thing that I haven’t been able to figure out is how to use MTS-ESP via Surge XT. Are there any specific instructions for Linux?

Yeah, something that’s easy to overlook is that you have to manually install the MTS-ESP library.

Drop this .so file in your /usr/local/lib:

I hope you don’t have an ARM CPU, because I’m not sure what the options are in that case.

Thank you! That works. I’m on x86-64, so no issues there. Looking forward to discovering a world of microtonality.

curious, what are the pro’s of using MTS-ESP over using .scl files?

  1. If you want to change the tuning, you don’t have to do it manually for every instrument. Many plugin instruments support MTS-ESP now so this is a big deal.
  2. Some MTS-ESP sources (like the original MTS-ESP Suite) are like tuning playgrounds where you can experiment with tunings in realtime.

Cool, thanks for the info. I should have figured this out by myself (google :)).
