Edit: Also maybe it should be possible to mute a complete device chain of a track.

Allow the user to decide that a given parameter should not be affected by automation (a.k.a. “muting” the automation).

It’s a workflow enhancer, nothing more. In theory, you could delete the automation, do some experimentation and undo to bring back the automation.
