Hello I want to build my own network between two computers. I have two networkcards a crooslink cabel. I have already tried many things but ican’t get it to work .
One computer has XP and the other one has Win 98 second editionand also a internet connection.
The first condition to have a working network is set up a common Workgroup.
Under XP, right click on My Computer -> Properties, then set up a name under Network ID.
Use the same name for both computer. This will allow you to share files/folders and be able to transfer files from computer to computer.
Then it’s all about IP configuration.
Go to your Control Pannel, and edit your Network Cards properties to put these values:
Network Card 1:
IP: 192.168.0.1
Netmask Address: 255.255.255.0
Network Card 2:
IP: 192.168.0.2
Netmask Address: 255.255.255.0
Reboot your win98 computer (XP doesn’t need rebooting when you specify a new IP for a NC), and try to ping each machine (start-run-cmd: ping 192.168.0.1/2). If you can ping each machine, there you go, you have your network!
