Most tools do not use OSC, therefore they do not use any ports.
In general, the tools that use OSC have an option to change the port (it is only to change a number), and if not, this possibility should exist.
Personally, I have not had any problem with the Windows firewall nor have I had to touch it when changing ports.
Also, I am not “advising” to change ports. I simply indicate that if there is a problem with port 8000, the user can use another port, such as 8001, without any problem.
If port 8000 stops working, it will also fail for the rest of the tools that use this port, these are isolated cases.
Is it possible to use the mouse-wheel to scroll up and down the piano roll? I use it all the time in the pattern editor but it’s awkward not being able to do it in PRE.
Not for the moment. You can use the up and down keys of the alphanumeric keyboard to change bethween lines or use the scroll bar on the left by dragging with the mouse, which is faster. However, I will take a look at this feature for later.
Yes. You can use the Chord Builder to define a chord and insert it directly with ALT SHIFT + click within the grid.
You can also insert notes side by side to create any chord by pressing CTRL SHIFT + click within the grid. This will stack the notes in adjacent note columns. The PRE will be in charge of displaying the necessary note columns to deposit the notes.
I wonder if alt++shift+clicking the notes to create chords could be the default option, and regular clicking could be one-note replace mode, the inverse of how it is currently (I’d like to make chords by clicking, not alt+shift clicking far more frequently than I would placing a single note). Perhaps as an option?
It could also be a nice option if the notes could be shown as blocks of notes instead of just the starting blocks and the off-notes, similar to how Simple Piano Roll does it: Simple Pianoroll | Renoise
Changing one way or another to “fire” functions using keyboard commands is not complicated. The point is that the program must offer a combination of commands for each function following some kind of criteria. Could be added in a future option, but other things will happen first…
Regarding showing the cells for the notes, the PRE is designed to display as much information as possible within the grid, even when there are many columns of notes or tracks at the same time. The position of the note is prioritized over the note block, which can take up too much space by hiding data. In this way it is very easy to locate where the note is and where the note off is in the pattern editor from the PRE.
