Nice Tools

Googled a bit and found this tool, after my friend running Ubuntu showed me this neat feature called Compiz. I’m going to try it out as soon as i get home from work… (Can’t wait)

Usually when making music i have 3 programs running, so instead of alt tabbing and clicking tabs switching between them i think piece of sofware will make it all a bit more handy & Beutiful. It’s hardware accelerated by the graphics card so it wont use much processor power. Running renoise on one screen, Reason Rack on one, and Reason Sequenser on one, and Sound forge on the last this would be a huge relief.

My laptop only has 1280x800 so when using this it probably would feel like i had a screen resolution of 5120x800 …Try it out. you might like it, and let me know what you think.

At first i was planning on buying an external 21" screen with insane resolution, but i guess this option is better, and less costly.

No fancy 3D spinning action, but personally I think that’s just a waste of time/resources anyway.

Just tryed it out and I LOVE it! =) Defenatly going to invest in this li’l piece of software. =) Requires some option tweaking to get it behaving as you want but defenatly worth the hassle.

When you are making music, do you really want to slap down all these GFX, CPU, RAM eating software? or do you want to keep the resources clean to focus on the main task: doing sound.

Well, on Vista, you could use Windows Key + Tab, but that produces a different effect. Still nice though.

I didn’t notice any performance drop whatsoverer. Maybe it’s using a lil more ram than before but besides from that, I never had any issues with performance on my machine. I don’t have any song that requires 100% of my system resources, if I did then I would really consider buying a better laptop or buying more RAM… :P cuz i really dont like the concept of ultra tuning a PC for one purpose (like music making).

I’m not one of those people who uses old win95 style look on XP to save i little amount of memory. I think the style and the looks of the user inteface i think it does a lot to make you feel comfortable when working. Like decorating a room. Working in a cold sterile basement with no lights, flowers or colors wouldn’t make me much inspired. Same thing goes with my windows enviroment…

I use a real nice Msstyle that fits me, a lovely background picture, Y’z Dock & Y’z Shadow for some mac looking effects and tools. Of course all of it uses resources, but i havn’t noticed any difference when making music.
Style and comfort is everything ;) but if i some day notice some drop in performance I’ll buy a new lappy that can handle all the goodies and programs i like and find useful.

how do you turn your 1280x800 to 5120x800, I have ssame problem, I dont need 3 desktops at the same time but would love to have a higher screen resolution.

The old freeware-version of this deskspace-tool was called yod’m 3d. You might want to grab the freeware here:
