Octave Wrapper / Pitch Constrainer / Scale Limiter

Not sure how to term this but I’ve got something I’d like to try with a bass instrument (xrni):

I’ve got a couple of saw waves for the mids with the lows rolled off
I’ve also got a sine playing at the same time for the sub freqs
I’d like to be able to play all 8 Octaves with the saws, i.e. the main harmonic content of the bass
But I’d like the sine sub limited to a range (say C2–B3 for argument’s sake) so that if C4 is played it wraps back around to C2

I’ve got this to work through keyzones, but this requires the sine to be duplicated, which is fine really, but I wondered if there was a neater way to achieve this through modulation with keytracking or similar.

I was on to a similar idea a while back and ended up just duplicating the sub and doing it through key zones, for simplicity’s sake. Also, there would usually be only two (or at most, three) octaves of the mids that sounded worth using. So, duplicating, mapping, and routing the sub was simple enough to do once or twice. It’s a good enough technique that I still use it from time to time.

That said, I’d also be curious to know if there’s anyone who knows a more efficient way of doing this using key tracking or a stepper or whatnot

Cheers Zen! This is the way I’ve gone.

Yeah, it’s definitely not really big enough of an issue, but part of why I’m asking is YouTube channels like yours which have completely rewired my understanding of Renoise’s capabilities.

haha, great! Glad if you get something out of them
