Old An Unused Vst's In Vstcache.xml

High,

When I was looking for log.txt I saw another file called vstcache.xml. I opened this file and I saw all vst’s that I’ve been using.

Then I also saw all kinds of vsti’s that I’v not used for over a year, not installed at the moment, and not even installed on this computerconfig after I totally formatted the disks and reinstalled Windows on it.

  • Why are all these vsti’s listed if there not even installed at the moment?
  • How can it be that there are vsti’s listed that I didn’t install after totally reinstalling my pc?
  • Is it better to have a ‘cleaned up’ list with only the vsti’s I actually use? I have only installed like 10 percent of the vsti’s listed.

I threw the vst.cache.xml away, a new one was generated, still the same old vsti’s showed up.

Not really important, I’m just curious!

Cheers,

Patrick

The vstcache.xml is a file which keeps information about all known VST-Plugins so renoise does not have to “analyze” them at each startup. the original xml file was created using the collections of several people.
so this file is not an overview of the plugins you use(d), but more a complete collection of all vsts avaiable at general. good thing about this is that whenever you find a VST which has been around for a while but you have not used yet, this VST is already on the list.

Oh okay, thanks for the explanation. At first I was glad I removed all the plugins I didn’t use anyway, and only installed a few I really need. But then I saw this list and . . . well,

Thanks Looza,

the good thing about the list is that some plugins have some special options set there, for example if they can autosuspend or not (because some plugs don’t like being autosuspended).
