OSX El Capitan: Renoise won't reopen after being closed.

When I have Renoise opened and I close the application and try to reopen it, the application doesn’t restart. Intesad you hear a chime (if you have sounds enabled on your mac) that you would hear if say you scrolled down to the bottom of a page but couldn’t scroll any longer.

Basically in El Captain, Renoise won’t open. There is no running Renoise processes (that I can see) still running, but El Captain still think Renoise is in use and wonn’t open another instance of it.

Also if you open up Renoise in a different desktop environment, full screen, the behavior isn’t like any other mac app. Once you exit that full screen environment you get a really small window.

There appear to be widespread issues with many music software / hardware conflicts in OSX El Capitan:

Wow. Well I’ve just rolled back to Yosemitie.

It’s funny… I have the same trouble. I need to restart my computer to fix it.

That’s what I did. I had a session last night; a collab session and I kept having to reboot my computer because renoise wouldn’t work with it. lol proper embarrassing but we did get some work done.

Guys who is on El Capitan - try to disable that rootles thing and see how Renoise works.

http://osxdaily.com/2015/10/05/disable-rootless-system-integrity-protection-mac-os-x/

I’ve tried that here now on OSX 10.11.1 but Renoise (32 or 64bit) opens up just fine here.

If anyone else is on 10.11 and has the same problems: is there anything useful dumped out in the Renoise.log file (Renoise -> Help -> Show the log file) or the system console app?

Can’t think of something in Renoise that the rootless thing needs to block, but any plugins or ReWire clients that run in Renoise of course may trigger some problems “in the name of Renoise” too.

I launched Renoise without AU and VST and everything work flawlessly.

And when I launched Renoise with only VST (i was thinking that the problem was because of AU), Renoise won’t open…

BTW I uninstalled Renoise and reinstalled it.

For me it was an intermittent problem, but one that would happen a few times in a row then stop. Then happen again a few times in a row then stopped. There was no error generated since renoise did close properly, it just wouldn’t open. Everything is now a o.k. now that I’m back on Yosemite.

Also can note replicate this with VST plugins enabled. But maybe a specific VST causes this.

As mentioned above, the Renoise.log file may help to find out more…

I did a factory reset and installed the most important plugins. Everything works fine.

I will post le renoise.log if I have the problem again

Thanks for your help!

Have the same issue…

On my El Capitan installation I had the same problem, but only with Live and only with the 64bit application - with or without ReWire. Renoise works fine. Reinstalling Live fixed that.

Tried to find get some more infos here, first thought it’s related to the security changes done in El Capitan or the problems with ReWire in Renoise, but this does not seem to be the case. There also seems to be nothing relevant in the system logs. Maybe something went wrong with file permissions while upgrading to El Capitan.

It’s Finder which prevents starting the application again. So you can start it again from the terminal. You also don’t need to reboot, logging out and in again will do too.

I actually cannot start it from the terminal. It will simply not open, while the call itself is blocking. No info is written into the terminal. “Reinstalling” will not help, because there is no “Installing” in OS X (besides moving the .app into the Application folder, but it doesn’t run, no matter where the file is).

Oh sorry, you are right, I have to call the Renoise binary in …Contents/MacOS/, not the .app itself…

Just installed latest El Capitan and installed latest renoise beta4, no issues at all. Perfectly opening/reopening/working and no audio issues with my NI audio interface even.
