Um, I’ll bite. What’s a “dungeon synth” exactly?

I don’t have a definition, but I think this describes well:

It is a subgenre of dark ambient music that emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The genre employs aesthetics and themes typically associated with black metal and applies it to dreamier ambient songs.

Ah, thanks for that. “Black metal meets ambient” Hmm … I have no interest in any of the political overshadowings but I’ll have to look into it some more. I’m doing some sound design and that could be an interesting subgenre to examine.
