I cant copy a sample 
, and then paste it into the bit under the white line (forgot the terminology) 
within the instrument box. Thought it would make things quicker 
if you could,

Copy/pasting samples using shortcuts can be done using the sample editor.
Select the whole sample (CTRL + A) or just an area and then use one of these combo’s:
CTRL + shift + C is copy into new sample
CTRL+ Shift+Alt +C is copy into new instrument.
Do take care the sample editor has keyboard focus.
