Pasting the whole midi content from song to song

Hello

I want to import a midi file (single track, single channel) to a particular track of my song. I know this question has been adressed and that the only way (?) to do it is to open another Renoise instance, open the midi file in there, copy the midi data to the clipboard then paste it back in the first instance.

However, I am unsure how to do that : I tried to copy/paste the actual textual data from the source pattern editor to the target pattern, but the midi automation (and midi device control) weren’t copied.

Can you tell me how to make sure everything gets properly pasted in my song ?

As far as I remember, automation is only copied if there same named devices are existing in the track chain… But I am unsure about it.

It seems to work ! Cumbersome but OK: I don’t need to do this often.
