Patten Editor, Suggestions For Thew Sake Of Workflow

Keyboard Repeat Rate
Can’t set it to less than 5(ms) in preferences / Keys, why is that?
It feels much slower than my Atari tbh, on which I never had to use a mouse in the tracker…

Underlay / Overlay Buffer Paste Command
May seem unnecessary for a Tracker with nearly unlimited channels… On the other hand I’m sure it could be fun still for some cool sample chopping effects!

Perhaps I should specify what I mean here:
With normal paste you delete what is currently in the column.
Underlay / Overlay (e.g. ctrl + U / ctrl + O) would allow to paste what is in the buffer underneath or above to what is currently in the column. Since colums play monophonic sounds would mute each other and you have the real oldschool hardcore sidechaining effect ;D

Duplicate Selection
Fuck Yeah! It doesn’t exist? Tell me that I’m wrong, because I can’t believe it.
This would simply allow to select the first 16 or whatever and…+D,+D,+D you have the 64 completed :D
Or program weird delays etc. in the tracker… think about it.

That’s all for today, I’m testing and enjoying really this coming 2.8 version, all great new features so far!!

Do you really need to enter more than 20 notes a second by holding a key?

Do you know about Mix Paste?

Huh? Not sure I understand… Have a feeling you might like Continuous Paste. Although this will always do so until the end of the pattern and I believe you more want to be able to scroll down the same number of lines as the size of the pasted block. Still might be useful though.

2.8 is in release candidate phase, don’t see new suggestions getting implemented for the final version.

Don’t think I ever noticed it being too slow, but maybe it is inevitable to have some delay with current soundcard/OS architecture? What would be the amount you’d need, 2 ms?

You mean like ‘mix-paste’? That is already there, though I can’t find it really quick in the right mouse click menu (either it’s gone or I’m blind), there is a keyboard shortcut though, search for it in the preferences / keys tab.

Copy the selection you want to have duplicated throughout the pattern, then press ctrl+p to paste continuously (or select paste continuously in the right mouse click menu)

lower KRR and duplicate, please.

2.8 is in release candidate phase, don’t see new suggestions getting implemented for the final version.
Sure, I totally understand (was not my intention).

Tried mix paste now (Shift + Command + V)
didn’t know about it, but it doesn’t quite do what I expect.

For the keyboard rate, yes i think 2 would do, it’s more about the navigation really than entering notes (making selections by holding shift etc.)

OK, tried Command + P, it’s good, didn’t know it.
just don’t quite get it yet

Also it’s still impossible to select a part of a column without mouse (?)
It always takes the whole track…
extra key for column only selection plus a faster Keyboard rate would be the shit

I think there are keyboard shortcuts that select everything in a track above or under the cursor, but have never used them myself, so don’t know the specific combination. Check out the preferences / keys tab and you will find them, I think some people have also made scripts/keyboard shortcuts that deal with selection.

No you can’t make detailed selections with the mouse, you have to use the Masks in Advanced Edit. I agree it could be neater.

Try using keys such as Home, Page Up, Page Down, End. Speeds up the process!

yes, the only problem is that they can only select ‘everything’ and not just a single column of notes or pattern effects.
I found a way meaniwhile to select a column only (preferences, keys - pattern editor, selection, mark whole colunm) which is great, i assigned it to shift + S. but still a more specific selection isn’t possible like that. I would be very interessted in knowing how to make a script myself if that’s possible, or see what has been done in that direction…
mostly i tend to avoid using automation in renoise (except for post production) because it’s a tracker after all and i consider tranparency (a good overview of whats going on) and fast editing as the main aspect of all tracker programs.

Try [SHIFT]+[ALT]+A and [SHIFT]+[ALT]+Z for selecting everything above or below cursor in a column. Works like a charm on effect columns too.

CMD-D (ALT-D from ScreamTracker3,ImpulseTracker2,ReViSiT and SchismTracker) is replicated in Paketti. http://tools.renoise.com/tools/paketti

enjoy.
(yes, it should be native)

guy says “double selection”, you say “you don’t understand”.
look:

select 4. press key. 8 selected. press key. 16 selected. press key, 32 selected. press key, 64 selected. press key, 128 selected. press key, 256. press key, 512.

this means doubling the amount of rows the selection is in.

this is impulsetracker2/st3/schism functionality.

continuous paste is not what he is looking for.

he wants to have a shortcut which selects an amount, and then doubles the selection amount. then doubles that selection amount. one shortcut which does the doubling. it’s ALT-D in ST3/IT2/Schism.

thanks esaruoho, i just installed paletti in 2.8 -
what do i have to do now to get this working? it doens’t do much yet when i try the commands
i’m not experienced with impulse tracker, is there like a list of function available somewhere?

just to make it clear, by ‘duplicate seletion’ i meant just simply duplication like in most sequencer programs.
whatever you select, no matter how many steps etc. gets pasted (once) right after the selected area, e.g. by pressing Command + D
then it continues pasting after the last paste, when Command + D is pressed again etc.

go to Preferences → Key Preferences and type in Paketti to the search-bar and you will see almost all of the shortcuts available in Paketti.

try the 3 different versions. one selects per column, one selects per track one selects per pattern.
