Performance Hit While Rewiring To Live?

Hi, I just wanted to check to see if this was normal:

I’m using Live 8.0.3 and Renoise 2.1.0 RC1.

Repro:
I start Live by itself, and I’m at like 4% CPU usage or less.

I start Renoise by itself and Renoise’s CPU usually says it has a resting CPU load of like 2%.

I start Live, and then start Renoise as a Rewire slave. I arm a track in Live to bring in the Renoise audio.

Expected:
I would think that the resting CPU reported in Live would be something like, say 6%. Right?

Actual:
The resting CPU jumps immediately to 15%. If I disarm and re-arm the tracks I can sometimes get it to jump back down to 9% (?).

Is this typical?

System info: WinXP SP2, Pentium 3.0Ghz, 1GB Ram.

Interestingly I hit something similar with max5. It’s a driver problem as far as I can tell in my case, max5 seems to hate my ASIO drivers, I was getting high cpu % (like 100% if you do anything strenuous) with max alone, until i rewire it to renoise (renoise as master) and it drops off to 5% doing the same stuff. So I use it exclusively through renoise now heh…

Have you tried slaving Live to Renoise to see what difference it makes?
