2 different fm synth vst’s. Both can play 4 operator sounds but one can’t load sysex files so I want to map their shared parameters together to see if I can roughly recreate the sounds. I.e matching the operator 1 ratio.
I can view all the appropriate parameters in Renoise/Ableton but I can’t figure out linking 2 params together, preferably with formulas involved where necessary. The ideal goal would be that I load a sysex preset in one synth and all the shared parameters ping into place on the other synth. Converting preset hex files was above my paygrade and I fear the workaround is too…
maybe its just me missing some logic after too many hours of bashing my head against the desk today but I couldnt get instrument control mappings to go anywhere other than the plugin. I will maybe approach again this week if I can but I’m not confident hydra is quite what im after
I don’t think loading a .syx file in one synth will automatically move all the sliders in the other synth to the equivalent values because you linked them in a hydra(?), but you need to use 2 instr. Automation devices since you’re talking about vsti, right? Then hook up all the necessary parameters from both instr.automation devices across the hydra device. Now the input of the hydra will determine the values according to the set min/max and scaling settings and you can sync the parameters of both synths through the input of the hydra for the time you’re moving or automating it.
Perhaps if all the ratio’s between shared parameters are set up right, loading a new preset or syx file won’t update both vsti automatically, but will when you move or automate the hydra input?
Also using ctrl+m you can midi map instr.automation parameters to a midi controller. In learn mode when you set ‘allow mapping of the same note/cc more then once’ you can hook up parameters from the different synths to the same controller knob or slider and using different min and max settings you can manually set the ratio’s if needed. This could be worth setting up?
I tried with 2 automation devices but i couldnt seem to map them both to hydra? Maybe I’m missing something there but i couldnt get there.
And unfortunately the min/max of parameters is not enough for precise ratio conversions. I had the parameters binded in ableton and it was fine for adsr and some of the more easygoing parameters but trying to make a max object for ratio tuning conversions defeated both me and AI. This is just the basics too, algorithm matrix will be worse…
I have emailed support for opx4 begging for a simpler way.
In the hydra device you first need to set the track where the instr.automation devices are located (right next to Out 1, Out 2 et cetera). Then select the correct automation device, then look for the parameters inside the synth which you want to map;
here the cutoff in surge and the global volume in genesis vsti are linked to the same input parameter in the hydra.
But judging from what you want, talking about algorithm matrix , this is outside my paygrade and what can be done through the hydra! Perhaps formula device can help with more custom needs, though I thought simple parameter linking. Why not simply use the synth which can load the syx files and skip the other one?
