The Launchpad type of interface looks intriguing. It might be useful although I have no idea what are the practical principles of what can be done with this, and especially regarding Renoise and Duplex mlrx. So I installed Duplex and start mlrx. Have no Launchpad yet. Looks like it is possible to use mlrx w/o a Launchpad - is it at all ? If it is, is there any practical howto on how to use this to create some stuff ? The Quickstart assumes the reader knows about this technology. I press several buttons here and there, get some sounds, but it makes no sense whatsover Any link to any beginner’s demo (many demos on youtube but they do not really show in detail how to use this, and most are not with Renoise) and documentation ? - thanks.

If you are using the on-screen version, you might as well go with the monome128 version instead, it’s got a resolution of 16 (double that of the Launchpads).

Mlrx is a continuation of a specific type of sequencer called mlr. Unlike a step sequencer, you are playing/sequencing loops on the fly. Each button gives you access to a particular point in time (sample, slice or line offset).
Although mlr has traditionally been all about (ab)using sampled loops, this version works with Renoise phrases too.
I mostly did mlrx for personal use and have no immediate plans of writing a manual for it, sorry.
However, if you have any concrete questions regarding the “Quickstart” located here, feel free to ask

I guess you stumbled upon some of the great mlr videos out there? I would esp. recommend to check out Daedelus, that guy is doing amazing stuff with just a few sounds. I’m not aware of any videos specific tomlrx though.
Thanks for the reply. This is all new to me. I see some creative potential if only by the weirdness of the ‘instrument’, so to speak. I still do not know how this works although I pressed enough buttons to see that there’s something there The Launchpad would be the easiest to get and cheapest of those devices. Is the support in Renoise (Linux) for the Launchpad (either mini or the regular) as par as anything ‘standardly commercial’ such perhaps as Ableton or such ? Or are there shortcomings ? Also, if I do get a Launchpad, then what is the interplay between the Duplex Launchpad Renoise tools and an actual Launchpad ? What do they allow ? Is it possible to use a Launchpad w/o the Duplex tools ? Just curious about how all this interplays.

Yes, Launchpad should work across the platforms on which Renoise runs (OSX, Win and Linux). Also, Duplex is by no means required, it just happens to have a whole suite of applications, most of which are already configured for the Launchpad. Other tools have appeared which support the Launchpad as well, so there is plenty of stuff to investigate
