Poll: Have You Used A Tracker Before Renoise?

Started out with Fast Tracker 2 somewhere in 1995 or so. And after that I used to work with Skale Tracker for a few years.

Using Renoise since about 3 or 4 years.

Started in 95 with Scream Tracker 3.01 and some time after switched to Impulse Tracker, then stopped tracking some years ago. Now I hope to retake it with Renoise.

I’m fairly new to trackers, having used mostly piano roll and staff-based editors. I started tracking last year with Modplug, and then moved on to MilkyTracker. Last summer I discovered Renoise, which instantly got me hooked, and has made me a lot more productive song-wise.

ST3, IT2, Buzz, Buzz+Sonar, Live, REAPER, Renoise

I still primarily use Live, but composing in Renoise is so much more intuitive for me that my work flow is starting to shift over. But Live still kicks Renoise’s butt for mixing. Sorry, but it’s true.

IT2 > FT2

i started using modplug tracker in 96, i used that for about 7 or 8 years. i tried FL and a few other programs, but i liked the tracker way of working on things. i got into a serious relationship in 2004 which sucked most of the time for my hobbies, so i didnt make much music in that time. now i have more time for my personal hobbies, so when i started getting back into it a few years ago i discovered renoise. plus im playing around with alot soft synths, effects, sequencers that i never really messed with before. everything before was all sample based with very limited effects. a friend suggested abelton live to me, so i tried it out but it wasnt for me. renoise is perfect as far as im concerned. specially after using modplug for so many years.

Here is some short list of tracker software i used smile.gif/>/>/>

 1. Fasttracker 2.06 - 2.09 1997-2003
 2. AXS 2.02 - 2.03 windows axs3 1999-still in use
 3. Buzz 2001-sometimes in use
 4. ModPlug (Open MPT) 2000-2003
 5. Renoise 1.281 - 1.5 DEMO 2002-2007
 6. Renoise 1.8 - 2.8 - 3.8 Full license 2007-still in use - the best soft ever made…

also tried these for a while:

Screem tracker 3.22,
inpulse tracker 2.14,
velvet studio 2.
Digitrakker
Xtracker
MilkyTracker
NoiseTrekker
Adlib Tracker II

also i use alot of non tracker software but this is off the topic… usualy i use abletone live for ambient music, but when it comes up for melody and beat especialy for IDM - Renoise is unreplaceble.

Heh, i remember when ST3 came out with a jaw-dropping 16 channels!!! :panic: :w00t: :yeah:

Before that i had been using other, more “mainstream” music software on an old black&white mac, but i wouldn’t really consider those as “trackers”.

Jeskola Buzz was my first tracker ^_^

91 or 92 protracker I think, not sure maybe soundtracker and later protracker. Later in the ninetees some trackers on pc which names have forgotten. Later came sequencers like rebirth, reason, cubase (cubase even befor pc times, on atari aswell),nuendo, ableton, reaper, logic, protools, short time sonar (quit), short time fruityloops(not my thang), reason.
Still use almost all apart of these that aren’t my thang:D Sometimes for different stages in production, like protools for recordings and nice plug ins, or logic for its native plug ins (sculpture is great f.e) etc, sometimes I combine a few daws for different tasks for one track. Sometimes I have longer times where I use only one daw and learn it or refresh shortcuts for my memory etc.
Now renoise hits my nostaligcal heart and brought alot of fun and challeges to my heart. Really love it! Nuff Respect to the developers and the Renoise Crew

Perhaps you mean Noisetracker? Although Soundtracker was the ultimate first, Mahoney and Kaktus’ Noisetracker was the most use predecessor to Protracker.
Karsten’s Soundtracker was based upon the Rob Hubbard’s composing methods in the early days according to Wikipedia, but i personally suspect that Karsten took a good look at Chris Hülsbeck’s Soundmonitor (which is the first music editor i ever used on the C64).

Renoise is my first tracker.

I started on Acid PRo in 02, then Cubase SX3 in 05 then Ableton Live 6.03 07… Now finally Renoise 2.8 2010

Hi Renoise was my first tracker after using several other DAW’s at first i didn’t get renoise and it sat on my HD until i got fed up with my Current DAW and decided to make a track in renosie. Once i got my head around the vertical patterns  i was hooked the workflow is phonomanal.

NO
Renoise was my first “tracker”
however, I have touched different stuff since the 90ies
starting with things like “sequencers” (like “C-Lab Notator” and stuff)
and “harddisk recorders” (like “creamw@re Triple-DAT” and others)
and so on …

:)

that one brings back memories … one could really make it swing !
and the MIDI timing of atari was really solid … with some akai sampler that was

+1

Started out with Rockmonitor on the C64, used pretty much all trackers since then. Sountracker by Karsten Obarski is my fondest memory :)

I started with X-Tracker vom D-Lusion on PC, it’s interface was in text-mode :D :D

I shortly switched to FT2 and stayed with it for a long time, I think 1995-2000. Since then i only made music once in a while. I bought renoise in 2003 or so.

i got devirginized with Renoise as my first ever Tracker DAW.

I’ve used mostly screamtracker 3, my 486 dx 33MHz had a hard time optimally running FT2.
I’ve also used JohnPlayer on the C64.

more or less screamtracker, fasttracker, impulsetracker, madtracker, modplug, axs, dreamstation, buzz, noisetrekker, aodix,[that weird named other tracker by arguru]
after renoise probably: h8tracker,goattracker,milkytracker,z-tracker,schismtracker,skale (not really)
and a few own trackers
what i really liked too was piano roll software, steinberg card32 + yamaha hs-8, sound club :D

MED and then octaMED on the Amiga back in 1990.
MPT or Modplug from '98
Then non trackers / standard DAW’s tried all the main ones.
Now back with the tracker workflow and loving Renoise :)
