Ok, Windows 7 is already out of scope of main-stream support.
microsoft supports only embedded devices and POS machines till October 2024.
The most stubborn ones use these updates on generic desktop computers.
Renoise system requirements still contain Windows 7 line, but think that such occurrence is not for a long time.
Creating this topic, just because i can and bet that neat quantity of people would like to ask the same question. So, here is a quick poll to research possibility of Windows 7 support.
If there would be a paid Windows 7 Renoise version I’ll be interested…
In any scenario [monthly subscription, yearly subscription, one-time large fee]
Only if one-time large fee will be offered
Even if subscription model will be implemented, but only in case of yearly format
In monthly subscription as long as it’ll keep extended Windows 7 support afloat

PS Please don’t begin “this OS is obsolete” routine, to prevent unneeded conversations and to keep thread clean. Just believe me that plethora of people are using Windows 7 for a good reason. As for Linux and Mac users, please, stay calm too.
In case of acceptable results this poll can help Renoise developers to understand ability of commercial effectiveness of such project.
I don’t mean to sound harsh, but I do think it’s important to give you a bit of a reality check and limit your expectations somewhat… This is never going to happen.
If you insist on using an ancient version of Windows, then you’ll simply have to use an old version of Renoise that still fully supports that version of Windows.
There’s absolutely no point in discussing fees or payments or subscriptions or anything else — It’s simply not going to happen, and it’s a waste of time and energy to think otherwise.
No problemo, opinions always vary. Even music tastes.
For eg, from my point of view AtariOS is ancient, but definitely not Win 7, which shows modern web as is, without any limitations. Each person have it’s own standards and beliefs.
Somebody counts win10 as more secure than win 7, but that’s not quite true if we look to ms bulletin and count number of released patches. One more rule: more user base - more attack vector.
As for the poll, consider it as my personal initiative: just want to collect some stats.
ps Please note
Please don’t begin “this OS is obsolete” routine
You could still be using MS-DOS for all I care – Mad respect to you for keeping the old dreams alive, truly!
I’m just telling you plainly and matter of fact: None of Renoise’s internal development resources will be spent bending over backwards to make sure that Windows 7 – an already long-dead OS – is fully supported into the foreseeable future.
I know you said not to mention obsolete OS’s, but I’m just giving you the honest truth here…
It’s all love but it’s a bit pointless to argue the matter…
For what it’s worth, I do personally still have a couple of ancient laptops running WinXP and Win7 with older versions of Renoise to maintain backwards compatibilty with my old song backups… So I’m with you on that front! (I even still have an ooooooooooold lappy running Win2k, but that thing barely turns on anymore…)
But my main desktop system runs Win10 at the moment — even I still resist the move to Win11, blech!
And I’ve got a horrible bloody M2 MacBook Pro for plugin dev testing… puke
Anyway… I didn’t mean to go off and rant at you, mate… So I do apologise for that!
I was using win7 until last year. Then that computer died which led to a new machine with a new OS.
Time marches on, so do computers and their software. At one point things just get too old to support, and that’s fine.
Though, it’s important that older versions of Renoise that do run on win7 stay available. Not having access to the newer stuff is the price you pay for not keeping up. That said, those Renoise versions are mighty capable. Not much you’re missing out on.
And yes, if you only have older hardware, run linux. You’ll be surprised how powerful that old machine still is when it’s not being slowed down by Windows.
