Prodigy's New Album

Don’t diss Smack My Bitch Up please :)

Let’s hope so, I’ll buy the CD anyway so will probably find out in August

:D

firestarter was released a long time after “music for the jilted generation” as a peek for the next album “fat of the land”, which came much later (a year or so maybe ?). However, firestarter was great, aswell as the b-side-track (I dont remember its name), but for me it was the only good track of “fat of the land”. “smack my bitch up” is music-wise complete rubbish, I am sorry.

Still “Smack…” is really good compared to “Diesel Power” :P

Anyhow, in an interview, Liam said that “Fat of the land” was created with live shows in mind, so the music had to be rather simplified. I’ve been to the “Fat of the land” tour concert and I have to admit that the music really worked on stage. In the very same interview, Liam also said that the upcoming album was going to be more like “Music for the Jilted Generation”, so I hoped it will be good. Now, having listened to the previews, I can’t help the impression that Liam must have forgot how “Jilted Generation” sounded … or perhaps he’s mistaken it with “Fat of the Land” - after all it’s been a couple of years since

That song was called “Molotov Bitch”

Whicka-Whickie-Scratch!

I liked both firestarter and breathe from Fat of the land but my favourite from that period is “The Trick”, wich is a b-side of the breathe single. The rest of FOTL was a huge dissapointment.

While we’re at the subject. Has anyone heard the new bestie boys album “To the 5 boroughs”? I’ve been waiting for that album for SO long now and… I wan’t it to be good… but it’s not.

Not at all.

yeah right, that one was cool. oh, and “breathe” was a great track too, but on this the b-side sucked.

I just have one thing to add to this discussion… “Out of space” was definately Prodigy at its best

Doesn’t ALL the Beastie Boys songs sound very much the same??

They rhyme like…

Wagga-chiggy-whagga-choppi-whoop whoop WOW!!!
Hagga-hey-jagga-do-the-whip-whap… NOW!!!
Doobie-shagga-hoobie-joogie-rip-rap… HOW??
Farma-jarma-jib-jib-joogie-wap-wop… COW!!!

That’s my impression at least.

You’re basically right. Except for Sabotage, which truly :guitar:

Actually… it gets even “worse”:

(lyrics from “Pass the mic”)

Yes Yes Y’All
And Yes Yes Y’All
I’m Always On Time Never The Less Y’All
And That’s Right Y’All,
I Shed Light Y’All
I’ve Got No Time In My Life To Get Uptight Y’All

…but I think it’s all good. :)

i thought firestarter was a pretty crappy track overall. it made me pine for the days when Keith Flint sat in the back behind Maxim and kept his mouth shut. nothing worse than a wanna be punk with an ego complex. I dug Breathe. Smack my bitch up was cool, but obviously a Kool Keith inspired riff.

Oh and with regards to ‘pass the mic’, i know it’s common place for rappers to copy off eachother but:

Cypress Hill “boom biddy bye bye” from ‘temples of boom’ (circa 1992)

Yes yes Y’all
I be the one with tha mad budda bless Y’all
Comin’ from the West Y’all.

I forgot about ‘Experience’, best album ever B)

beastie boys … oh well, they had a few good tracks, but thats it. however, I am totally in “the in sound from way out” (or something like that), the collection of those instrumental jazz tracks which were spread over half a dozen of their albums. this one is doooope. but instead they are still trying to make this stiff hiphop thing of theirs. sigh.

I will give it a new listen when I get home, and review it. Long time since I heard it.

finally got it and … well, dunno. its not half as bad as fat of the land, but its not good. his overcompressed rockdrums suck, I hate those sledgehammer-drums, I am more for those katana-like sharp hiphop-drums (“modus operandi” from photek if you know what I mean …)
also, everything is quite boring, not much variation. on the good side though, its good he got some more vocalists, adds some variance. also, the ending of the whole record is a nice little joke.
but well, what do you expect, he didn’t do much for 7 years and now uses reason … maybe his next one will rock again.

(oops, above post was me!)

That’s because it SEEMS they’re the name of the artists he’s collaborated with.

Spitfire rocks.

The rest, are, to me at least, very mundane. Some are even unlistenable (like the Oasis’ featured track Shoot Down), imho. The sound quality is fairly fatiguing on several tracks.

I was quite disappointed.

Certainly no catchy tracks that stuck out.

FOTL was awesome, Smack My Bitch Up, Narayan, Climbatize, Firestarter, etc. were really, really good tunes. As was the previous Jilted album, with Voodoo People, Skylined, Poison, No Good, et al. Some very catchy stuff.
But ground-breaking though they were in their time, it’s absolutely understandable that, as an artist, you can’t go over old ground with new albums and the same old techniques. Maybe Liam wants to take The Prodigy away from the near-mainstream and back underground, where a smaller gathering of hardcore fans will appreciate it more.

This album is certainly an aquired taste. I reckon many people will be disappointed with it, but it’s not up to us really - any artist should make music how THEY want it, rather than how other think it should sound like. Hats off to him.

BTW, you can read the official interview with Liam Howlett on the official UK Prodigy website, here: http://212.67.202.86/~theprod/bb/viewtopic…cfa2e3d1f31b44c
