Yes, the convolver can do all kinds of cool things 
I like to make tonal delays and custom distortions with it. Super versatile!

Yes, I think they should mention it a bit more in tutorial and videos. One can make all kinds of awesome sounds with minimal CPU cost.
Drop drum samples, or tonal samples or any kind of weird samples in the IR slot. Adjust IR sample tuning, and wet/dry balance.
