finally I found some free time to finish this first song… I created it for fun and for learning renoise :)

as I used only samples [old 8 and 16 bit samples from amiga] and basic sfx from renoise, I tried to create something slightly different than any other psy songs… I also sampled 2 lesbians chat from old porn movie :slight_smile:

btw, psy isn’t my fav style [I create breakbeat, triphop, electro, dnb & ambient] but you live once and you want to try everything :)

ok. I`m not satisfied with sound - I believe it is up to bad samples? Everything seems a bit crowded [overflow] with samples, of course, when I use VST’s - sound is around 4 times better. what do you think?

Hey man this sounds phat ! i like all the tricky sounds 'n stuff , nice breakbeats , nice drive . only i miss some groovy melodies kickin in! it is getting a bit monotone to me … But further then that " Hey u got my attention dude i love this stuff!

ill give it a 9 ! ;)

Very good work. I like most tricks you used along the track, some good samples, like claps and reverse choir.

Also having the RNS file is very very appreciated. I´m downloading right now… i have a feeling that you used Vst Glitch haha :D

On the other hand, i prefer a fat bass with presence than the old moog bass. One that sound lees “old” these days. Also there are lots of kick drums better than that (anyway 145 bpm is good kickn´ B) )

Progresion is very tricky, seems you are experienced with the good ol´ trackers

Whoa you didn´t used any vst, lo-fimat and the dspchain on the SFX channel is very very tricky. I use vsts much more… my head doesn´t want to think so much

EDIT2: hahaha tell the world that you didn´t used vst Glitch to render sample 01 ;)

EDIT3: ok ok I promise this is my last edit, i see lots of reversed samples. Maybe you´ll find useful the effect 0B00 - Play sample backwards

great song! ‘who’s your daddy and what does he do?’ :D i agree with nebula… the only thing i miss is a kool melody. other than that, thumbs up! gonna keep this on my playlist for a while

this was good excersize to me! actually I didn`t make any music since 1997 when amiga starts dying along with its non-updated trackers… until I saw for the first time ReNoise that makes me feel at home again! ReNoise rocks!!! :) and after I reg it, I fall in love with the program! :slight_smile:

anyway, I have several questions about music making [1997. was loooong time ago]:

  • how can I maximize volume in final rendered track so it can sound loud [as close as other, studio making songs]? I have WaveLab but when I use Compressor filters [and other, similar VST sfx, mostly compressors] - sound is louder, but distorted too. What is the trick? I believe there should be compressor that will pump the sound up, and then I`ll do Normalize and that should be it… but can’t find good Maximizer…?

  • I played a lot with VST’s [got all great free instruments from rocketloop.com], but notice that my 2,8 ghz PeeCee isn’t fast enough to make over 7 or 8 tracks with VST’s :(

what is your suggestion - to get another, faster processor? For example, if I buy other motherboard & faster processor, how much channels with VST’s can I get? 8 is not very much, reminds me on Amiga 030 when I worked on DigiBooster almost 10 years ago… I also had there not more than 8 tracks :)

  • yes :) I used Glitch [after I read about it here], downloaded demo and used it just for making output sample :) reimport it back, hehe! Glitch Rulz! I`ll register it soon, definitelly!

  • do you know good VST that can produce quality Psy-like sfx? and Bass? I believe good bass I can produce using TB303 like VST? but after searching so many VST’s I couldn’t find best psy-like bass…

  • still learning effects. B is extremly useful :) and I remember using the same command in OSS - next time I wanted to play sample forward, I had to type B01 [IIRC?] to “reset” reverse playing :) OSS & its bugs he he.

  • I have over 6 songs in pipeline… and use VST’s mostly. sound is fantastic & clear, but still can’t produce loud enough final render…?

thank you for your comments. yes, agree, there is a good melody needed :) will be in next songs… next one is a progressive trance… also started some dnb & electro… working with renoise is so much fun!!! :)

The overall sound volume depends on your sets… but i´d stick the master vol to 0db if i were you, with proper compresion, only Eq for enhacing presence. That´s what i use.

Phoscyon does look promising and also the Karma FX Synth. Phoscyon wasn’t released yet but a demo is available.

Very cool song, i like the more monotone stuff, so for my taste another melody isn’t needed. ;)

I’m still not sure if I like Goa Trance. It’s really weird. :blink:

I Liked that. Would call it more Goa than Psy myself, but that is a lot more the side of things I like so I guess you could kinda take that as a compliment ;)

Personally not so into the melody driven stuff (al la Isreali Psy) and like all the trippy noise and strange effects that is used in a lot of the older Goa stuff a lot more.

Listening to some of the nicer produced stuff on here just makes what I’ve been writing sound like a muddy mess :-/

Back in the FTII days is use to download loads of tracks. Learned a lot from it.

cool track. i like the tweaky percussion. transitions are very lovely and with a great focus on detail. the melodic ladder (playing on & off to transitions) could be more prominent. I’d love to see it be extended to a complete hookline.

nothing ground breaking in the field of psytrance, but definitely solid.

I think its very nice! Think I would rate it a 8.5 out of 10 in that genre, with some kind of melodic stuff in it I would rate it even higher.

thank you all for your comments :) yes making this song was good excercise to me in learning ReNoise. new songs Im currently working on sounds much better & have more melody & channels. Ill release new mp3’s very soon :)

Reckon this needs some adjustment to the levels… the highs are a bit too sharp and cracking, taking attention from the overall sound…

Great noises in it though.

I really enjoy all the effects used in the song. I normally can’t stand that type of rhythm, the dance club or bathhouse sort of beat, but you made enough changes to keep me listening. It may not be something I repeatedly listen to, but then again, like I said, I normally can’t even tolerate the bathhouse rhythm. A melody line would bring this to a level that I would give several repeated listenings.

For the style of music that it is, great stuff! EDIT: I’d say a 7.8 out of 10 for its genre.

tnx for your comments :) I also dont like classic doom_doom_doom rhythm, I looove breakbeats as they are harder to create, but for this party-style music, best suits classic rhythm unfortunatelly. but Im in a middle of creation of breakbeat psytrance music with guitars & female singing. I think I didn`t hear anything similar :)
