i tried to load an mp3 as a sample into a tune (first time since i re-installed the system), it gave me an error message and said to download the quicktime from a link.
i went there, successfully installed it, rebooted… and it still requires me to download and install it.
What does the Renoise log file say about your Quicktime version? You’ll find the Log.txt file at
Windows XP: x:\Documents and Settings%username%\Application Data\Renoise%renoiseversion%
Windows Vista: x:\Users%username%\Application Data\Roaming\Renoise%renoiseversion%
Are you using WinVista or XP?
Do you have installed the official Quicktime packages or the Quicktime alternative thing? Have you installed itunes as well? Does this work then?

i use windows XP sp2 as i did before when it worked.
and i downloaded QT alternative, actually it was the only option that was offered while going to the link Renoise gave me.
it also installed iTunes but it messed everything up (even the winamp has crashed upon loading it) so i had to remove that.
Could you post the very first line of the log file? There will be some logging about the quicktime version, if it was found and so on…
Removing Itunes might have messed up Quicktime. Simply deinstall Quicktime and Itunes or whatever is left, then install this thing: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ → (QuickTime 7.4.5 for Windows XP or Vista)
Version : Renoise V1.9.1 (Jan 29 2008)
Date : 2008-03-18
OS : WinXP Szervizcsomag 2

i bet this is not what you were asking for…
anyway, even when i had iTunes installed it was working bad too
UPDATE
i uninstalled every versions of quicktime, rebooted, installed the one you suggested (7.4.5.xx), rebooted, and it still does not work, renoise still asks for QT7 or higher!
