Random Bpm

As we all know, Renoise randomises the BPM each time you load the program (or Delete All). At first this confused me a little bit, but then I realised that it was probably done this way to inspire people to think about making music in a BPM/style they might not normally do.

So there’s something I’ve always sort of been curious about…

How many people actually think to themselves “alright, cool, 80bpm… let’s see what I can do with this!” (or 100bpm, or 160bpm, or whatever the random value is)…

…and how many just immediately change the BPM to something they think they’d prefer to work with?

Obviously this doesn’t apply to existing projects/tracks that you’re working on, but when starting new tracks, what do you usually do? Have you ever forced yourself to do something with the BPM that Renoise gives you that day?

:D

Well I keep a startup song, so it always starts up with the same BPM, although I haven’t set it to any particular favorite BPM… :)

It’s very seldom I think like you say, to try something completely different, but it happens. Most often I start to play around with a sample or VSTi on the MIDI keyboard and then I’ll adjust the BPM to the tempo I played.

i usually compose all my songs in speed 3 and bpm between 150-180
Even if i wanna make song with rather slow tempo i still prefer those
settings to get better resolution…

But yes, sometimes i just experiment allready composed material with different speeed and bpm-s to gain maybe interesting results… but even if i do i still will go back to speed 3 and rather fast tempo and just “expand” the notes…

I don’t care much about the random speed Renoise give me… I start composing whatever the Random Speed was set to… but soon comes the moment to adjust it to make it sound good toghether… My ideas they usually come with a certain tempo attached… but some other time it’s just a “concept” I can adapt to different bpms…

I’ve never seen that, Renoise always gives me 132/6.

I’ve done that.
