Wow, some fantastic looking resources here!
Thanks to all for sharing
Second Zebralette 3, they improved the sound quality a lot and removed redundant osc types, now it’s just either geometry or spectral, and all features are on par with Vital now. I really feel I can make anything I want with those 2 and ob-xd.
It’s still in beta, but it’s more stable than Tyrell N6 which hasn’t been updated in like 7 years.
What do you mean "they managed to find sweetspos on every parameter ?
The so called sweetspots are all in the dsp code ( which is found on the rom bin ) , the emulator is EMULATING the motoralla chip which then exectues the original dsp code .
The actual sound processing , dsp code ( written by david Kemper of acces ) remains unaltered , in other words it’s a cpu emulator executing original code .
Geometry and spectral are not osc’s types, but rather the engines used .
The osc types are still there ( lot’s of new ones and fare more advanced )
Technically correct I guess, I said osc types because the two osc sources of the plugin are curve geometry and curve spectrum
Before there were 4, geo/spectro blend and morph, which were redundant and very outdated sounding, now it’s just those two with the “wavetable” and “additive” renderers, The new engine is really awesome.
post is quite old, I don’t remember what I meant, but I guess, it was the sweetspot in the original presets. Most of it are really high quality.
Well I don’t agree with the 4 old modes sounding dated
The spectromorph and geomorph are used daily here to get phase distortion sounds (using the pd effect as osc ) .
Zebra (hz ) is the only plugin where altering ( distorting ) the phasor is actually done correct , even arturia fucked it up in their cz ( when using user mode waveshape )
Do the new modes in zebralette 3 sound better , yes , but there is still place for zebra 2

!!! ATTENTION !!! ATTENTION !!!
Nodal Red 2x now available, best synth
https://futurenoize.com/dsp56300/builds/nodalred2x/beta/
No, it actually is a 1:1 byte exact reincarnation of the Nord Lead 2x, emulating the chipset. You’ll need the original rom files and original preset syxex banks, too.
This might be a good place to ask: Discord (after you were invited)
Surge Synth Team will be reviving Shortcircuit sampler soon!
It looks like I never posted in this thread. These are the free VSTs that I’m always using:
- LoudMax (TP Limiter) by Thomas Mundt
- MonoBass (Monoizer) by GVST
- SPAN (Spectrum Analyzer) by Voxengo
- Loudness Meter 2 (Loudness Meter) by Youlean
Some more free VSTs that I can also recommend:
- Kotelnikov (Compressor) by Tokyo Dawn Records
- GClip (Clipper) by GVST
- MEqualizer (EQ) by Melda Productions
- Deelay (Delay) by Sixth Sample
- Super Massive (Reverb) by Valhalla
Some free instrument plugins that I like the most:
- Synth1 (Synthesizer) by Daichi
- ProtoPlasm (sample based Synthesizer) by H.G. Fortune
Seems like LSP wasn’t recommended in this thread yet. Maybe not so interesting for Win/Mac but for Linux users.
TDR never stops surprising, now renoise spectrum got some real competition

Cramit, much, much better OTT replacement, also has a built-in drive, can do expansion and customizable crossover frequencies. Default ones are the ones from OTT preset. Also watch the status bar for helpful shortcuts:
There was a silent update of the old Ambience Reverb AU, providing arm support, already in late 2020:

I have not used it,but BX seem to be a good brand
Not really freeware, but plugin boutique has an offer till the end of the month where with every purchase you can get bitwig 8-track for free. It is basically the most stripped down version of bitwig, but I just got it with a very cheap plugin and thought to mention here
