Renoise 1.5.2 Release Candidate

Dear Renoisers,

We would like to release a small 1.5 Bugfix update as soon as
possible, but need your help to make sure that all problems are
fixed and no new problems where introduced. Would be cool if you
could help testing, by downloading and playing around with the new
release. In about a week we will then make the release official
(when nothing bad happens).

The builds can be downloaded at:

http://www.renoise.com/download/Renoise1_5_2_Demo.exe (Windows)
http://www.renoise.com/download/Renoise1_5…_2_Demo.tar.bz2 (Mac OS X)

Both builds are evaluation (unregistered) builds. Registered
versions will be available as soon as the 1.5.2 release gets official.
You can have both versions (1.5.1 and the 1.5.2 release candidate)
installed side by side though, so if you need to render a song or
need to use ASIO, you still can use the 1.5.1 release. The Songs
saved with the two versions are compatible: you can load Songs made
with the 1.5.2 build in Renoise 1.5.1 and vice versa.

Please report (good and bad stuff) about this release into this
thread please.

Changes from Renoise 1.5.1 to 1.5.2:

Improvements:

± Changed MIDI Program Change behavior:
When modifying a MIDI instrument property, Renoise will
no longer resend program changes for all MIDI instruments,
but only for the changed instrument

± OSX: Improved VST window handling: VST editor
windows should now require less CPU; fixed various
drawing/resize incompatibilities for VST windows

Fixes:

  • Windows: Fixed possible random crashes when deleting a
VST or native DSP device, when clicking on the small “X”
    button in the DSP device.
  • OSX: fixed startup problems when running Renoise on a
    case sensitive HD partition
  • OSX: Fixed broken Apple menu in OSX 10.4.3
  • Fixed wrong import of 32 bit float AIFC files
  • Fixed initialization problems with the Korg-M1 VSTi
  • Fixed distorted Audio output with the Normad Phaser VST
  • Fixed incorrectly bypassed *VSTiAutomationDevices: When
bypassed, parameter changes where still send to the VSTi

Cheers taktik, downloading now.

Weee… :yeah:

Wohohoa. The VST window handling in OSX seems to be working like a charm!

due to the MAC VST-window fix : is the vsti resize-problem on Windows fixed as well? … there are still some problems with NI vsti’s and/or Arturia vsti’s …

but not so important … ;)

Thanx taktik!
'll test it asap.

i had no problems with 1.5.1 so far. downloaded & testing 1.5.2 even though. :)

  • Fixed distorted Audio output with the Normad Phaser VST

Lovely! Tried the RC and yup, works perfectly now!

Well. not like a charm after all… damn.

and

Every popup menu seems to go under the VSTi-window :(

Thanks devs! No probs so far… Lots of Xing tried.

EDIT: I can reproduce this behavior.

iMac G5
OS X 10.4.3

Are you running 10.3? Has anyone else on 10.3 the same problem?

Here’s how to reproduce the bug:

  • Launch Renoise
  • Instr. Settings → Instrument → VST: FreeAlpha (it’s free so everyone can get it)
  • Open editor, Do the drop-down (First Time it works fine)
  • Close editor using on FreeAlpha
  • Open editor, Do the drop-down (This time it won’t work!)

Thanks. This is fixed now.

hawt damn!

The mac builds have been updated now. Please download again if you want to test the fixed VST popup window issue on the mac.

It’s working. Brilliant!

I just played with it for an hour or so.

I didn’t use any automation, just changed the vol. slider of a track, while trying some (actually a lot of) VSTis out. And:
Once it appeared that the automation box at the right of the volume slider of the track was white (defeault Renoise skin). Normally it should be green, when enabled.
If I hovered over it, it said the parameter was automated, but if I looked at the automation envelope it wasn’t.

Reopened the song and it was gone.

I couldn’t reproduce this, nor I know if this was 1.5.2 related. I just saw this now for the first time.

this is oh so very pleasing B)

this one not so much…yet.
still get the same result as before (extremely loud noise) with 32 bit floating 96hz aiff files saved normally with peak. -i could send an example-

it would be sweet to have a button in the sample editor that would help the waveform selections to find zero crossings, just like in audacity. B)

man i cant wait now, the vsti gui handling is perfect, again. :drummer:
i upgraded ($130usd) to 10.4 using target disk mode with my 500mhz ibook, worked perfectly. an now have no problems with having renoise open and going into sleep mode. at the beginning aftering installing 10.4 renoise crashed at least 3 out of 5 sessions, but now its working very well. spent at least 40 hours in the past 2 weeks inspired an using renoise. :yeah:

Great to hear that this issue is finally history. Have I already mentioned that I hate VST?

Could you please send me such a file?
