⮚ Renoise 3.5 and Redux 1.4 Released

Finally !
I was learning TidalCycles Strudel a while ago and wondering if it is possible to add something like this in Renoise.
taktik, you were reading my mind :star_struck:
Now you will have all Strudel users switching to Renoise :grin:
Thank you for the updates, guys!

I noticed that. Thank you for that. This makes things a lot easier for customizing renoise looks. Only thing that would be nice, if renoise would be looking for files in the preference folder. Or am I missing something? Had to set an absolute path to the font-files, because renoise was looking in the app folders on MacOS. Or is there a placeholder for the “USER_CONFIG_PATH” that can be placed in pattern.xml and config.xml. But very nice update. Thank you :slight_smile:

Nooooooo, no Win7 support :sob:

Thought VxKex might force it to run but no joy. Every new Windows is progressively worse, give me back my blocky UIs and minimal interference from crap and let me cling on to my nostalgia as the world slides into self-destruction.

Ideally a 3.1 compatible version would be great :smiley:

I’m also dissatisfied, so it’s time to try Ubuntu Studio or AV Linux if it’s supposed to be an audio system

HOLY SMOKES - I was already amazed by the waveform visualization, but VST visualization in the instrument box just looks AWESOME!

Fyi;

Renoise instruments can play, samples, vsti and midi at the same time. If you couple / double up a sample with a vsti or midi out instrument you can have both visualized;

In this example I used a midi vsti plugin named hypercyclic which doesn’t necessarily output sound on its own, but enables you to send its midi to another instrument in Renoise if needed. Using the little icons in the right you can quickly jump to either the phrase, sample & plugin view. Similarly you can double mouse click on the views itself and Renoise will jump to them.

edit;

Although its mostly eye candy, I think the visualization with vsti’s and midi instruments is especially handy with phrase scripts that have input parameters. So through changing the inputs, you can visually see what notes you are attenuating, how they affect symmetry, change the output shape.

A lot of work in the new versions! Especially the new API changes now allow to do wonders. Thank you very much @taktik. I miss the old great web design, but yes, everything is evolving.

I had the same error message on a fresh Win11 while on Win10 (not so fresh in fact it’s crying for clean\kill it sometimes) everything works good

Cool, its possible to change the font size of the Phrases Script editor ?

Yup, this can be done with “Ctrl/Cmd + I” or “Ctrl/Cmd + U” when the left panel is focussed.

  • Instrument Automation: This device now has ‘target’ buttons which allow clicking on an external plugin GUI to assign a parameter (if supported by the plugin).

I REALLY REALLY LIKE THIS… :heart_eyes: :heart_eyes:

one question:

Why wasn’t this implemented for vst-fx with this update? That would make it complete!

Great!!! Thanks, Achenar. I’m also going to use this post to thank you for your tutorials

Yo, hello - absolutely fantastic to see a new Renoise update, and it’s such a cool set of features. Really liking the phrase scripting system, it’s cool.

I had a question, though - it seems like “off” events aren’t triggering in the scripting system. I thought that “off” commands would act like a note off and shut off playing notes in the phrase, but that’s not how it works currently. Is this intentional, or maybe am I missing something?

Like, this pattern just returns a repeating sound with no breaks in-between:

return pattern {
  unit = "1/32",
  pulse = { 1 },
  event = { "c4", "off"}
}

That’s a silly bug which got introduced shortly before 3.5 went public: Renoise 3.5/Redux 1.4: Script Phrase Note Offs Not Playing Back Correctly

It will be fixed very soon.

Interesting. So this means failed “patterns shared library file” is a not WIN7 problem?

could developers share some info on that?

:heart_eyes: AWESOME

Thank you so much, splitter, autodetect parameters and the UI changes are :yeah:

Edit: Maybe it’s a bug, is it not possible to change playback speed (transpose) in sample properties anymore?
