Reaching out to the community, as I’m a bit stumped here. Renoise can locate some plug-ins, but not others.
All plug-ins have been installed correctly as far as I’m aware. There’s seemingly no difference in the file extension nor the location on the disk for these, however Renoise seems to only be locating or showing a select few.
For each of them there exists a .vst, .vst3, and .component file. For example; Xfer Serum is installed in this way, via these directories, and shows in the Plug-in drop down menu as expected.
Several other plug-ins installed in this same way do not appear in the drop down menu. Rescanning also does not show them.
If anyone has any advice or suggestions to explore on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Included is a screenshot detailing the selected functions in the ‘Plug / Misc’ section of the setup menu:
Plug-ins include those that operate as effects by inputting audio and outputting audio, those that operate like synthesizers by inputting MIDI and outputting audio, and those that input MIDI and output MIDI.
In VST, there seem to be the following three types.
VST instruments generate audio. They are generally either virtual synthesizers or virtual samplers. Many recreate the look and sound of famous hardware synthesizers. Better known VST instruments include Discovery, Nexus, Sylenth1, Massive, Omnisphere, FM8, Absynth, Reaktor, Gladiator, Serum and Vanguard.
VST effects process rather than generate audio—and perform the same functions as hardware audio processors such as reverbs and phasers. Other monitoring effects provide visual feedback of the input signal without processing the audio. Most hosts allow multiple effects to be chained. Audio monitoring devices such as spectrum analyzers and meters represent audio characteristics (frequency distribution, amplitude, etc.) visually.
VST MIDI effects process MIDI messages (for example, transpose or arpeggiate) and route the MIDI data to other VST instruments or to hardware devices.
Probably, Renoise has different plug-ins that can be used on different screens as shown below.
Renoise only - Note that although plugin effects and plugin instruments may have the same format name i.e. VST, they are still fundamentally different. Plugin effects will show up in the effects list shown here, while plugin instruments are handled in the Plugin section of the Instrument Editor.
