Renoise can't check for tool updates

Seem to only affect tools which lack a preferences.xml like Padsynth:

Renoise LOG> ScriptingTools: Initializing Scripting Tool: '/home/username/.config/Renoise/V3.4.4/Scripts/Tools/dec.ultradian7.ModulationDevicePresets.xrnx/'...
Renoise LOG> Exception: The XML file '/home/username/.config/Renoise/V3.4.4/Scripts/Tools/dec.ultradian7.ModulationDevicePresets.xrnx/preferences.xml' does not exist!

Is there a workaround / dummy file which can be used so Renoise is happy?

i wanna know - how does one do this tool update thing? what must the tool have to be able to be updated from the renoise tools page? does it do it automatically somehow?
