Renoise On Linux On Dell Inspiron

Hi all,

Im wondering if anyone has succeeded in using renoise on linux on a Dell Inspiron ???
I have a Dell inspiron 1420 laptop, with Ubuntu 8. I can run Renoise but the sound is not “smooth” it is constantly interrupted and there is some random noise.
I use RealTime priority. Setting the audio buffer size to 4096 helps a bit, unfortunately i can increase it more. Any ideas ???

Its quite frustrating since i have to keep vista just for renoise !!!

See you,

it this your specs man?

if so, this would blow away my thinkpad.
and my thinkpad can do a decent amount if i only use samples.

1st try turning off realtime priority and load up some of your songs you know will create issues while you are running in realtime priority.

then report back. :)

could you please tell us the output of this command from the terminal:
cat /proc/asound/cards

you probably have the shitty HDA Intel soundcard.

if so, your best option (for now) is to run Renoise with JACK and setting periods to 3 using qjackctl

Hi
Thanks for the answers ! Indeed i have this shitty HDA-intel chipset:

cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Intel]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xfebfc000 irq 20

Im really confused. I spent a lot of time trying to configure jack, I was going to write that it doesnt work at all!
I just restarted Jack and Renoise and everyhting works fine now. I dont know why :)

Cool i can delete Vista from my laptop :)
Thank you !

Zite

PS: Yes it is a dual core 2Ghz + 3Gb Ram (i use my laptop mostly for work)
