Renoise on macOS Tahoe, any problems?

I’m considering buying a new MacBook Pro M4 or M5. Is anyone using the new macOS Tahoe (version 26) and having problems with Renoise or VST instruments ?

I’m currently using a MacBook Pro M1 with macOS Sequoia.

Thanks for help and Happy New Year 2026!

Tahoe is quite bad, bad ui, glassy look and waste of space, and bugs. Better stay with sequoia, if you can. M4 at least should work with Sequoia. No idea about M5.

the main issue with tahoe is that they dropped firewire support. so if you use a firewire soundcard, you’re in trouble.

the releasedate of M5s will specify which macOS they start from. you can’t downgrade.

Sometimes i use a firewire sound card so it can be a problem for me too.

Exactly I can buy now pro m4 and will get sequoia on the board or I can wait a month and buy m5 without option to downgrade macos. I bet there will be the newest of macos.

Still working on sequioa on two computers…

well, m5 is far better (and costs same) than m4 plain, if that is the choice… m4 pro however seems to be much better than m5, might be the best processor choice of all currently. what’s the price for each?

I am thinking between macbook pro 16” m4 pro + 48gb of ram and m5 pro +ram. Not sure about price of m5 pro. Renoise on that machine should be working fine

On my m1 pro + 16 GB / Renoise + lots of vst effects and instruments it is easily to load CPU to 90%. hard to work in such conditions

LOL ok  M1 pro still is more than enough for me. Renoise isn’t really using all the cores, but maybe this is because my template song which is using groups everywhere. So mostly it is dependent on the raw single core performance.

No issues! Only if you want to load your song on windows or vica versa….. if u save on windows then u get errors on osx and if u save on osx you get errors on windows….

Mostly plugins get errors! I have the same plugins on osx and w10 but its always f@@kd up everything :frowning:

I don’t have any issues but wish they stayed away from that liquid glass design.

Yeah I believe it’s just using the performance cores.

thanks for letting me know.
