Renoise to Ableton song conversion [I know it's blasphemy]

I’ve got a finished-ish Renoise track from ages ago, and I want to “finish the job” in Ableton.

Do you have any top tips for conversion? I believe these are my options…

  • Render entire song with tracks as separate stems (with FX)
  • Render entire song with tracks as separate stems (with no FX - use ‘Device Chain’ / Cut to quickly remove FX)
  • Export the MIDI using MIDI convert tool
  • Open the Song File as Zip and rebuild the samples in Ableton Sampler device(s)

Any other top tips?

Seems like you need a decision first, converting or just stem mixing/mastering?

Perhaps a bit of both! I think having the no FX stems is helpful - maybe some adjustments needed on my original choices. It was all stock plugins, and the track is many years old.

Sounds like a good idea, substituting Renoise devices with vsts is a tedious process. That’s why I try to only use VSTs. Then conversion will be much more easy. The plain Renoise sampler can be replaced with Redux though. Also I then use the modified version of the midi export tool, since it also exports automation to midi ccs, which you then can copy to the actual automation lane again in the other DAW.

Maybe keep the “coloration” fx though? Just removing reverb, delay, etc? I don’t have much experience with stem mixing…

Yeah, It think I have all I need form the initial post - just wondering if anyone had any tips on doing this.

Taking the samples from the Zip file, it’s easy enough to load them into a simpler / sampler
