Renoise: to buy or not to buy

Is it worth buying Renoise? What I’m wondering is - is it being developed? Or, would I be buying essentially unsupported software?

Releases are infrequent (the last one was about a year ago) but they happen. As far as I know, Renoise is not lucrative enough to be anyone’s full-time job. As is always said when this question is asked: you should buy Renoise for what it is, not what it could be. Bug/compatibility fixes I trust to be released in time, and I expect there will be new features added too, but it’s not akin to a mainstream DAW with 10 full-time devs.

I love Renoise, and I don’t know any DAW that competes with it really, so yes, I do think you should buy it if it appeals to you.

It is being developed. If you like the demo, sure, buy it. I think it’s fantastic software, but it’s not necessarily a great fit for everyone. If you like the workflow, get it

Thanks! Good to know. I’m happy with it as is… it’s more that no one likes buying abandoned software.

You joined the forums 20 years ago and were still on the fence about a purchase back then…

I think the only one abandoning stuff is you, friend.

Grab yourself a license and come join the fun! :tada: :mirror_ball:

I use every DAW and every tracker and lots of other composing tools for the last 30 years now.

Renoise is the best as is! No missing features for compete with the meainstream DAW.

The price is ultra low! A game for a Nintendo Switch console is cost more money.

So YES absolutely worth every penny! Even if you dont have any income from your music made with Renoise.

But if you sell one music, then you get more money…
For sure

68 euros cost of dinner for 3-4 people in EU … of course it is worth every penny. this is a great software. I would recommend it.

Price: very good. Sadly scanning vsts: not very good. No matter what I do, Renoise crashes, then restarts the process, but scans what it has scanned before. Then it crashes again. I’ve tried native on an M1 Mac and with Rosetta.

Does it says something in the log file which plugin causes the crash?

I didn’t see the log file, but I did submit a bug report. I’ll have a closer look when I find time.

There are many things I don’t like about this project, but I will support it until an alternative appears. Unfortunately, this is a very niche daw that lacks advertising to understand how useful this product can be for creativity.

I’m away from home for a few days so I haven’t been able to check. I’ll see what I can see when I’m back.
