Renoise & Virus Ti Vst Problems

:yeah:

Haven’t been active for quite a while, but just a quick update from my side…

No problems over here with the latest version of Renoise (2.1 RC1) and TIOS 3.0.2.1 (public beta). Even after 15 minutes of continuous pattern play it still syncs. No strange behaviour of the effects, no hanging notes…

Very happy with the results :)

Great to hear that. Was this with static buffer enabled or disabled for the plugin? Found any other problems after having tested it for a while?

On my ancient system I need to enable the ‘static buffers’. Until now no other real problems found. :)

I’m running Virus TI with latest firmware 3.0.3.0 and Renoise 2.1 (mac) but unfortunately, still Virus TI is not working properly.

It gives the “A sync error occured. Press stop and Play to clear.” error within 10 seconds all the time. (both with PDC on and off)

When i disable the static buffers, i also get the delay as other people have already noticed.
When static buffers are on, the virus TI seems to start “in-sync” but the ARPs run out of sync quite fast.

Thanks taktik for your work on the issues so far, the comment from Mark from Access “Renoise is an unsupported host” is very frustrating though. - I upgraded from Virus A to Virus TI mainly because of the VST integration, and in Logic it is a very nice feature, nevertheless i have to say i am a little bit disappointed about the TI VST integration because it actually is not “just like VST”, too many problems still compared to a real VST.

If i knew earlier, i’d probably buy some faster pc/mac hardware plus decent softsynths instead.

To me, it is not a real alternative to run virus TI in “midi mode”, coz then the question is: why have paid so much for a TI when TI is actually not working. …

p.s. when running Logic Pro (Sound Device: Virus TI) as ReWire-Master, and Renoise as Slave with Virus TI as an VST instrument inside Renoise, then the Virus TI ARP runs fine.

@taktik: how comes the ARPs are perfectly in-sync when Renoise is in ReWire slave-mode? that gives me a little bit of hope that it should also be working when not being in rewire-mode, no ?

UPDATE

Yeah, actually also the ARPs are working properly, but only under the following circumstances:

a ) Logic Pro 8 + Mac Renoise 2.1 in ReWire Mode, Virus 3.0.3.0 as VST inside Renoise
b ) Virus 3.0.3.0 AU inside Renoise 2.1 (mac) only if “use static processing buffers” is switched on!
(when adding the virus control vst instrument, click the question mark to the right of the instrument selection pulldown)
Pro: ARPs working
Pro: Actually works even when virus TI is NOT the main audio device, but only used for AU/Virus Control
Con: Seems like there is no multiple-out support with AU. :frowning: Multi-Out works only for VST.
Con: As other people have already said, the rendering to wav doesn’t work properly

ARPs not working:
Virus VST 3.0.3.0 inside Renoise 2.1 (mac)

Well I’m finally back with my Virus after being away from home for far too long and am greeted by the prospect of it working like I always wished it would.

Results??

Weird…really weird…but excellent.

It is 90% there…seemingly 100% at times.

The BPM LED drifts in comparison to the actual tempo indicating a minor sync issue that seems to cause problems with tempo delays, arps etc. but most of the time is either not present or not apparent to my ears. This seems to be more severe on tracks I sequenced for the virus using MIDI and have converted over.

On a fresh new track there were few issues to speak of (minor things like the volume of sounds from the Virus being very low etc.) but it was in time and most surprisingly of all rendered almost perfectly. For some reason some of the Virus parts had moved up or down in the mix, but that may be my ears playing tricks on me. Anyway rendering worked for me without any crackles, pops or sync problems in the render.

Really awesome stuff.

Getting those final issues ironed out and making it interface with Renoise’s features more neatly would be great, but honestly the functionality is so close to being perfect I could continue to use it as is.

Thanks for all the hard work getting this going.

Just a quick update now I’ve had more time to experiment.

The rendering issues WERE my ears decieving me. As far as I can tell the Virus now renders perfectly realtime. BPM LED still goes a bit nuts from time to time during rendering, but it seems to have no discernable effect on the timing in the render.

There do seem to be some accuracy problems in note duration/timing. Sequences using a mono sound with porta that did not slide without note offs before the next trigger on the same track via MIDI now do through VST. This indicated that the note is being held (however briefly) while the next is triggered.

I don’t seem to be able to get output routing to work either.

In essence I’ve managed to get a tune from start to finish using the TI plugin. Automation works fine, timing has only minor problems, rendering seems to be perfect (though inheriting the slight timing problems). When I can work out how to split the parts across multiple outputs so I can apply effects etc. individually (and not have to mix TI parts in the plugin with only 127 granularity). At this point I’d be happy to say to anybody thinking of buying a TI that it works in Renoise…for me.

I’m now a proud owner of a Virus TI Polar.
Didn’t find much problems in my short test.
I never use arps, because I tent to program them into renoise.
only the feeling I get a bit more latency when VC is loaded. (but can be me on this late hour)
But I want to tell, I’m here If some further testing must be done.

Maybe it’s a good idea to make a sticky and a nice first post how to set things right (like the static buffers) and what can be done right now and what not (like the rendering thing)

After some testing I can´t get the inputs on my Polar to work while the audio is routed to another ASIO driver (this case Edirol UA-101).

Is this normal behaviour, a bug or just me with butterfingers?

still waiting for an awnser to the above question.
Meanwhile I tested the Virus a little more.
I came to the conclusion that the -45.000 ms sync bug/solution that cubedecibel discribed earlier is also happening here. (not sure it’s -45.000 exact)
in any case there is still a delay when sounding the virus over the USB port in the new 3.0.3.00 release.

for those who dare to try, there is a new public beta: 3.0.4.00 on the virus site.

I got a Virus today and put on the Beta OS. Like everyone else, I’m seeing a pretty big lag between hitting the key and getting a sound, although I’m not sure where and how to set the buffers to static so I haven’t tried that. I’ve also been having problems with notes getting stuck on when I’m using the Virus ASIO instead of my sound card’s.
It’s unfortunate that Access is unwilling to increase support for their own products.

The plugin instance frame of Renoise has a question mark on the top-left corner, push it and a dialog pops up showing you the “Needs static buffering” option along with a bunch of other options.

A final new OS is released: 3.1.0.0

It should fix the static buffer thing along with the silent vocoder when connecting trough USB.

Gotta try that tonight!

Everything works with the new virus patch except rendering when im using Renoises built in effects or third part VST effects…odd. It works if there is no modulation present.

If this can be fixed, Renoise is perfect :yeah:

When I use the USB outputs, I have no problems. Only some crackles, maybe because my buffer is to small.

When I use the hardware outputs on my Virus, it has a huge lag:

-Static buffers are on,
-pdc is off.

If you don’t have any problems, than what are your settings?

Thanks!

Virus owners please go and vote for Renoise in "Which of the following five hosts need better support in Virus Control?"poll in access-music forum.
http://www.renoise.com/board/index.php?sho…mp;#entry167563

(Only registered Virus owners can vote, unfortunately)

Can’t register to the forum, seems to be disabled at the moment.
I’m a registered owner but can’t vote :(

Thanks for this software it really help me…Hard to delete files renoise make it fast…Thanks a lot…Good job…

Albert

Can a VirusControl-In-Renoise-User please answer my question to posts above?

Thanks!

If I sequenced the Virus in Renoise with the Virus Control Vst, could I then just record it if theres no effects on it with a standard 1/4"? Or does the virus control make it so no output comes out of the virus?
