I was wondering why there are no rewire midi ports showing up in my 2.1…
Shouldnt there be some? If I want to send some fancy midi cc or pitchbend action, conveniently created by renoise to cubase for arrangement and archival (= more control, more tidyness) then I have to use a virtual midi port like maple, but I would like to use a perfectly in sync rewire midi port, and I find none…
Is this currently not implemented or what is the Problem there?
On the other hand it would be handy to be able to play midi files in cubase and record them to the acrivated track in renoise, sice many users like me come from cubase etc we are faster with recording stuff in cubase and why should we not have the possibility to record it into renoise, for example for preparing a live gig…
So we need rewire midi ports, and lots of them!
I hope this is going to be implemented asap, rewire still rocks with the midi port sharing functionality, but I just miss the rewire internal ports for communication between rewire master and slave…
just go instrument settings /midi dsp …I think it’s the second tab from the left …there you’ll see a dropdown list with all the available rewire midi ports …
Select the port you want to control ( actual note on/off data )
I you then select a midi cc device from the dsp effect ( select the correct midi destination …in this case your rewire midi port ) you can control the rewire midi ports with control cc’s
This works flawesly in reason and and plogue bidule …Having a good time with the era stepsequencer
okok, I found Instrument Settings, I went there…then there is Midi Properties, Sample Properties and VST Instrument Properties, I went to Midi Properties and there under “device” is the common dropdown list, in my case it includes 27 midi out ports since I have alot of midi gear, but there are no Rewire Ports!
Im wondering if this is just a bug or we dont mean the same thing
When you are running Renoise as ReWire master, Renoise can only show up and use MIDI ports that the ReWire slaves do publish. For example you’ll see Reasons synths as ReWire ports.
Well I use renoise as slave, but then is there no implementation in the rewire2 specs, that lets the slave send midi to a rewire midi port of the host? I mean after all I am sending sample accurately audio to my host via this rewire protocol, is there no spec for allowing to do the same with midi? It would just be great, we would not need virtual midi ports anymore…
Now im not sure anymore if its just not implemented in renoise, and I wonder if it is even in the functionality spectrum of rewire(2) at all…
I just want to send midi data home to the master/host program, sample accurately…sounds like something alot of people would love to have wouldnt they?
The other problem with the publishing I do understand, maybe there should better be this new meta device to do that job, even if it gets complicated, in the end its better to have the full use of rewire, with bidirectional midi connection etc, then everyone can see how he is going to use it…some will control rewire instruments (the freaking cool sampler) via midi from the master sequencer, others will use renoise as the math brain for complex rythmic midi cc control and be able to send this data home (to the host) for storage and arrangement etc etc…
Don’t worry Tom,
They will get there, but we’re still puzzling how. It’s not just solving this area in particular it is also preventing to mess up other areas (like timing and PDC) when this solution is implemented and how to integrate this solution that it also fits for future additions.
As VV said. In general this is possible in ReWire. The problem is just what Renoise should do with MIDI from the master.
Renoise was never built to be remote controlled like an instrument via MIDI. Even by using virtual MIDI ports to feed MIDI into Renoise, how do you want to use this to for example play back 2 or more instruments in Renoise? As said above, please read/comment this thread https://forum.renoise.com/t/using-ableton-live-instruments-in-renoise/24898 which deals with exactly this problem.
as a first step I´d love to se renoise be able to send midi to the master host. Is that at least possible? As I said, arranging and archiving midi files is more convenient in cubase than renoise imho…
