Metering in Renoise is far from ideal, unfortunately, even though it’s my favorite DAW.
Don’t wanna step on your toes but this topic could span more features.
Some stuff I’d love to see:
- More meter ranges options under the right-click menu (so you can see peaks closer, depending on your target).
- Show peak values near the meters, like in every other DAW. There’s no way to know the values unless you solo and go to the Master channel (or use a VST…). The other way is sticking to the default peak references (like -24db, -6db etc). However the meters are small and hard to watch for the reference values.
- Enable/Disable TruePeak/Inter Sample Peak metering
- Swap between peak/RMS modes
- Implement a mechanism to automatically silence Renoise when signals go Xdb over zero (ex: 12db above 0), like in Reaper, to protect ears and equipment (shit happens).
Anyways, these are only a few suggestions.
If I had to pick a single one, it would be showing the peak values above (or under) the meters.
