I’m a bit confounded why this isn’t already enabled. Using the sidechain device, I can freely route audio from one track to a receiving VST in another track (as long as that track is further “down the line”). If that VST happens to have the ability to monitor its sidechain input then I’ve effectively routed audio from one track to another!
Null testing proves that this is giving perfect, latency-free routing. So why the hack-y work around here? Why isn’t there means in Renoise to either to directly route Track X to track Y, or simply a “receive” device to accept and pass through the sidechain input?
I don’t consider send tracks to be an adequate solution here, because 1) they cannot be grouped in the mix freely with their source audio tracks, 2) if I want to put in automation on both a source and send track, then I have to hop between separate ends of the pattern matrix. (Not saying that send tracks don’t have their place, but they aren’t an appropriate replacement in all situations).
