Sample base note information

Hi,

why renoise don’t read sampleroot note (that is inside the .wav)?

Propellerheads NNXT and NN19, when you load a sample, set automatically the “base note” according to the information inside the sample.

I have meny sample with base note A2, but when I load them in renoise, it put them on C4, ignoring the real base note information!

Thanks

I asked this too:

We indeed only read and write loop mode, start and end infos from the WAV RIFFs right now.
For root note, key-zone ranges and so on a format like soundfont might be the better choice.

Maybe the dev team will add this in the future. I got no response for my question, why renoise dont read note informations from wave files.

There are many wave formats that share the .wav extension but do not support every option, other words:every .wav file has to be analysed for its header structure what kind of wav file is dealt with and then information can be extracted.
Even if Renoise would support extracting the root note, you have no insurance that every .wav file contains this data which would leave you into confusion (and asking why with file x this works and file y it does not work). So i suspect a choice was made to support what is present in every wave format rather than to support all other options that are not generally supported by every wave format.

Sample root note is written into the"Sample Chunk" (MIDI Unity Note)

If this chunk doesn’t exist, you may ask renoise to put sample in C4…
