selection in pattern to instrument-phrase?

Hi, how would I go about taking a channel-specific pattern selection (say, 0-512 rows) and copy pasting it into the instrument’s phrase? just a bulk dump would be good enough, i think.

I’m hoping to eventually be able to develop a shortcut where I can just press a key combination and lo’n’behold, the pattern data is safe inside a phrase, and the patterndata in the pattern is replaced with a note that triggers the phrase.

Should I try and work on this, or will Renoise eventually have this natively, or…?

Check the Pattern Editor’s context menu and you’ll find “Create Phrase” options listed under Selection, Column and Track. There are also keyboard shortcuts to match.

However, in order to avoid potentially trashing any existing instruments, phrases, keyzones, and so on, this function does not try to be especially clever. It only works on pattern data that contains a single instrument, and it will simply create a new cloned copy of that instrument with a single phrase inside it.

If you need more advanced functionality, then creating your own tool is the way to go for now.

Luckily, pat already made this tool:

(well, almost - not sure if it replaces the note in the patt-editor)

Maybe have a look at Afta’s render & slice tool which does place the notes back inside the pattern?https://forum.renoise.com/t/new-tool-3-0-render-and-slice/43102

it does not replace the note in the pattern editor… yet
